7/7/2010

On the evening of July 7th 2010 disaster struck the most heavily populated area in the State of Alaska.  It was a peaceful evening until 15 minutes past 7 in the PM.  Then mother nature dealt a blow from which the landscape and the population may never recover.  With a mighty upheaval of tectonic furry the landscape was rent and battered.  Where valleys rested mountains appeared.  Where lakes were, an empty lake bed remained.  Where mountains were, they stayed there.
Chairs were no match for the violent tossing of these events.  However Ipods remained unmoved on the tops of tables.  Even mother nature cannot interfere with the workings of Steve Jobs.

Repent ye! Repent ye! For the end is at hand.
And be sure your survival kits have clean undies!

Trip North

A couple of weekends ago we took a service trip up to Fairbanks AK.  We had a group up there at one time and thus we had service that needed to be done but no one up there to do it.  So they paid us to go take care of a bunch of it.
One of the customers was this nice old lady who had an award winning garden.  Look at that rhubarb! You could beat someone to death with it.
We took a break one of the days and had Chinese food by the river. And you can't have lunch without a nap.
You'd think a pregnant woman would avoid laying on her back, on the ground, outside, on a slope, in the sun, in the middle of the sea.
That's right folks! North Pole Alaska.  Too bad we weren't here come Christmas time.  Undoubtedly this would be a fun place to be.
Except when giant scary Santa comes to life and starts crushing a destroying everything.
Going up to and back from Fairbanks you pass through Denali national park.  Very pretty this time of year.  But it was totally overcast so we couldn't see Mt. McKinley at all.  What a drag!

The 4th

How can it be the 4th of July without a barbecue? Honestly.  We went up to Eagle River and had a little cookout.
  Randy came
and Kade and Jennacy came
and Sam came.  In a very round about way it was a family event.
Then we went down town and climbed to the top of all the parking garages to see the fireworks that some lying customer of Kade's said there would be.  How can you shoot of fireworks when it never gets dark? Come on lady, get with it!
So we just walked around and finally gave up and came home to see a brilliant fireworks display put on by Kade and his laptop.

We Are Having A....

Baby!  We made it through the ultrasound and following visit without it getting out what the little alien is. But we have 20 more weeks to go and have to change states and doctors so there is plenty of time and opportunity for someone to let it slip.
I have never been able to tell what I am supposedly looking at with those old ultrasound pictures, but this I can see. Our child has 2 faces. One growing out of the side of the other one.  Not really just in case you were freaking out.   I have been around babies a bit before but I would put myself in the "inexperienced" category when it comes to having kids.  I thought that an ultrasound was a pretty quick process.  Nope. It took about 40 minutes to get all the pictures and angles and whatnot.  Also, no one told me you can see the babies brain and that they show it to you and measure it.  I didn't like that.  Kinda made me dizzy.  I have never been one to suffer from claustrophobia before but seeing the baby all smashed in there made me feel tight and closed in.  Good thing being born again isn't literal.

If a kid sucks their thumb pre-birth how hard is it going to be to break that habit in about 3 years? I guess it's better than spitting or smoking.
We got an A+ from someone after the ultrasound.  I assume she was a doctor, she had scrubs on and a white coat and had a clipboard.  But she said everything looked great. 14 ounces, not sure how long, lets say 18 units.
